About this forum

She works hard delivering engaging, invaluable, hands-on training for departments across the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and Bristol and Devon University Royal Naval Units (URNU).

Bristol URNU was formed in 1986, and recruits the majority of its 51 undergraduate students from Bristol University, Bath University and the University of the West of England.

As well as providing opportunities for sea time throughout the year, URNU meets weekly during the term-time for drill nights that include theoretical instruction, practical chartwork and an insight into naval and military activities.

HMS Dasher's role

HMS Dasher and her crew give undergraduates from universities across the South West the opportunity to discover their sea-legs – and a lifelong passion for sailing. It’s about inspiring the next generation, developing seamanship, team building and leadership skills in a maritime environment.

However, Dasher’s work isn’t limited to supporting Bristol URNU. She also takes part on missions in both UK and European waters, flying the White Ensign in places larger vessels can’t reach.
