HMS Forward brings home trophy

This year participants from HMS Forward took part in the annual Crowborough Challenge, a competition held against Naval Reserve Units from the south of the country.

The event, focused around developing the leadership and management skills of its participants, included activities organised by all of the RNR specialisms, including the Medical, Information Operations, Diving, and Media branches.

Not only was Birmingham-based Reservist, AB Karen Grant, part of the winning team during this year’s challenge, but she was also awarded as the ‘Most Improved’ candidate out of the 100 participants who took part.

After a day of flexing their leadership and teamwork skills, everyone unwound with a traditional Naval BBQ, of course accompanied with fancy dress (this year’s theme was D-Day 75)!

Everyone had a chance to develop their leadership skills in a fun environment, and it’s great to see the Unit bring silverware home!

Following the evening social, all the Reservists slept in the great outdoors, where they could practice their field skills, before completing a “Navex”, or navigational exercise, the following day.

Chief Petty Officer Karen Petherick, who was one of the key organisers for the HMS Forward contingent, said: “This year’s Crowborough was a huge success.
